Position Summary

Rosalind Franklin University Health Clinics is seeking to fill a full-time Medical Assistant position. The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks at the Rosalind Franklin University Health Clinics office in North Chicago, Libertyville and Condell. He/she is responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. The Medical Assistant will provide information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the services and convey a positive image. He/she may be assigned to specific medical specialty (e.g. podiatry) to help with patient care related to that specialty.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

* Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, blood draws, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
* Fulfill clerical/administrative responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and charting to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
* Fulfill environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
* Fulfill organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include: respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; keeping immediate supervisor(s) informed of problems relating to patients and/or staff.
* Perform other related duties as assigned or delegated.

Required Education & Experience

* High school diploma or GED equivalent.
* Completion of medical assisting program.
* One year medical assistant experience.
* Maintain BLS certification.
* Must achieve a background check clearance.

* Knowledge of health care field and medical specialty.
* Exemplary skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communication.
* Ability to work/interact with diverse populations, showing respect and sensitivity for cultural differences.
* Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical specialty.
* Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
* Skill in performing tasks appropriately.
* Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
* Skill in understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
* Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
* Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
* Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks.
* Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
* Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate techniques when helping patients ambulate and dress and the ability to handle stressful situations are required.

Preferred Qualifications

* 1-2 years Medical Assistant experience
