I worked at Anna Dolce between semesters at the University of Northern Iowa and eventually more consistently once I settled in West Des Moines. Initially, I worked there as a hostess. Over the years, I became familiar enough with the menu to begin food running and expediting. In my last year there, I held the position of the main expo on Friday and Saturday nights. The skills I gained there are as follows:

  • Maintaining food quality
  • Executing proper timing for food orders
  • Communicating with chef's over food orders
  • Knowing the pivot points for each table
  • Organizing the tickets for food orders

I also went through server training, though I never got the chance to put that into practice. With that, I learned:

  • How to take orders as a server
  • How to put in orders on the computer
  • The correct dialogue for communicating with customers
  • The best methods for achieving customer satisfaction

I also completed the Iowa Program for Alcohol Compliance Training. My position there was very engaging. I both expedited and ran most the food in the restaurant the nights I worked there. With this, I am confident I can manage my cool in a busy work environment
