Being a high school office Teaching Assistant (TA) offers a unique and rewarding experience that goes beyond typical classroom roles. As a TA, I am entrusted with important administrative tasks that help keep the school running smoothly from day to day.
From organizing files and delivering mail to updating the main school bulletin board with important announcements I play an important role in supporting the administrative staff and ensuring that the office functions efficiently.
This role has not only helped me develop valuable organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills but has also allowed me to become an integral part of the school community. As a TA, I take pride in contributing to the overall success of the school.
The Student-Athlete Leadership Council at the Carolina Friends School (CFS) High School provides student-athletes an opportunity to grow and improve leadership skills, establish a consistent sports team culture at CFS, make community connections between units and their families, and work on ways to make sports at CFS and our larger community equitable and inclusive.
I have been playing sports my whole life. I have been on multiple sports teams including Middle school soccer for 2 years, Middle school basketball for 4 years,Middle school baseball for 1 year and High school ultimate frisbee team for a season. I am currently on the High school Varsity basketball team.
By being an active member of the Student-Athlete Leadership Council, I work with my fellow students to make sports at CFS as exciting and interactive as possible.
Along with a group of close friends, I volunteered periodically at the Ronald Mcdonald house of Chapel Hill, where we prepared and served fresh, hot meals for approximately 60-70 guests staying at the facility. I did all aspects of meal preparation including purchasing ingredients, preparing the meal, baking dessert, packaging and serving the meals to guests in the dinning room. I then participated in clean up which included washing dishes, sweeping the floors, wiping the counters, and taking out the trash
This has been a deeply meaningful and impactful experience. As a volunteer, I realized that you become a critical part of this supportive community, providing not just practical assistance, but also emotional support and companionship to families during a difficult time in their lives.
Volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House has taught me the power of compassion and the rule that we can all play in helping to make a difference in the lives of our fellow human beings.
