Having served on Payson IHC for 3 seasons, I am looked upon by the Squad boss and
Lead to help assist junior crew members in all aspects of crew operations
Served as a primary sawyer on the crew for 2 seasons and learned the fundamentals of
felling, bucking and saw line construction
I was also leaned on more to help new
sawyers understand the operation, maintenance and mechanics within the saw program
Familiar with both the troubleshooting and basic repair of Stihl 461, 462, and 500i
chainsaws
While being on Payson IHC I have done 1 ICT5 assignment which involved recieving the
coordinates from dispatch, navigating to the incident, briefing the squad on the
appropriate tactic and end-state, relaying a size up to dispatch about the status of the
fire, as well as giving any pertinent updates all while ensuring the crew was engaged
safely
As a member of a Hotshot crew I have had the opportunity to continue to gather fire
experience in a variety of fuel types, terrain, and weather
On multiple occasions I served as a lookout for the crew and reported on fire behavior
and weather conditions, while also assisting the crew with route finding and the relaying
of communications
Navigated the squad to and from points along the fireline
Scouted fireline to help assist and make decisions about where to engage crewmembers
for various tasks including line placement, hazards, and helicopter landing zones
Made tactical decisions on personnel and equipment needed to complete our
assignments
Briefed crew on instructions, assignments and made sure they were clear and
understood
Led and participated in multiple after action reviews
(AAR)
Assisted in crew helicopter operations such as attaching sling loads, calculating flight
weights, and the construction of helicopter landing spots
Gained experience operating a variety of pumps including Mark 3’s, Honda pumps and
Shindawa’s
Conducted both progressive and simple hose lay’s to help flow water from a source to
the fire, while taking into account the pumping platform capabilities and elevation
change
Participated in multiple crew firing operations and learned how to adjust as needed due
to changes in fuels, topography and winds
Acted as both the interior and line lighter during firing operations and continued to gather
experience on utilizing drip torches, very pistols and fusses’s.

Conducted daily maintenance on vehicles, and reported defects as they were detected
Built and deployed hose packs in both training scenarios and wildfire suppression
Participated in pump and role training, drafting, and pumping operations with our engine
Constructed direct and indirect handline with a variety of hand tools including Pulaski’s
Combi’s, McCloud’s, Rogue’s and rakes
Conducted ignition operations with drip torches, fuses, and hand toss devices
Monitored weather through use of both sling psychrometer and kestrel
Cloned handheld radios as well as vehicle radios, and became familiar with radio
operations including hand programming, tone selecting and radio etiquette
During this time I was able to fill on Blue Ridge IHC for a 2 week assignment, as well as
Payson IHC on 2 separate occasions.
USFS Wildland Fire Academy
Completed multiple NWCG and FEMA courses and received an overview of wild fire
suppression and the incident command system
Conducted daily physical training with an emphasis on hiking, running, and strength
training
Trained with several Forest Service engines and gained an understanding of simple and
progressive hose lays as well as various engine capabilities
Construct fire line with Pulaskis, McClouds, shovels and combi tools
Conducted perscribed fire operations through use of drip torches, fuses and very pistols.
