Bill Straus

• Elected member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from the 10th Bristol District. The district includes parts of the city of New Bedford, and the towns of Acushnet, Fairhaven, Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester.

• Legislative work includes service on several legislative committees including appointment to leadership roles as Committee Chair for Committees on Election Laws and Environment. Presently serving as House Chair for Transportation since 2011. Authored major legislation for transportation funding and safety oversight.

General practice attorney with extensive negotiation, arbitration and litigation experience in state and federal courts.

Appointed member of town municipal board responsible for permitting and enforcement of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protections Act.

Appointed by Governor Dukakis as a Public Member of the Massachusetts Hazardous Waste Facility Site Safety Council and served from 1987 to 1992. The panel provided public review and permitting for proposed hazardous waste treatment facilities pursuant to chapter 21D of state laws.

Legislative aide in the office of U.S. Senator John C. Culver (D-Iowa) 1978 through 1980.

Assisted Politics Editor with research and interviews for publication in the magazine during the Presidential Election cycle in 1976. Two by-line pieces published as well.
