Directly responsible for all aspects of Information Technology, Physical and Logical Security, Facilities Management and Member Relations. FBCU is a $325M organization with 31,000 plus members and 113 employees with locations in Odessa, Midland, Andrews and Lubbock.

Under my guidance and purview, the information technology landscape at First Basin has evolved into an hybrid of on-premise and hosted solutions that provides back-office applications and member facing service offerings all in the name of Member Experience. My strategic planning and execution continues to provide an environment that showcases a 99.99% uptime that users and members expect.

Key Information Technology Responsibilities

  • Establish and long-term planning initiatives that aligns with the vision of the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with C suite team and other members of management to ensure optimal service offerings to membership base.
  • Foster new and existing relationships with third party vendors.
  • Ensure that existing and renewal contracts are in the best interest of First Basin.
  • Policy management and oversight to ensure compliance with state and federal regulators on all Information Technology related aspects.

Key Security Responsibilities

  • Oversee remediation planning as it relates to internal and external network evaluations, penetration testing and vulnerability assessments.
  • Provide guidance related to data backup and retention policies to ensure internal and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee access control related to staff, lease tenants, and vendors and all locations.
  • Policy management and oversight to ensure compliance with state and federal regulators on all security related aspects.
  • Provide education to the entire organization as it relates to network security; phishing, ransomware and social engineering.

  • Oversee all aspects of First Basin's seven brick and mortar locations in Odessa, Midland, Andrews and Lubbock.
  • Manage the relationships with lease-tenants.
  • Oversee construction of new locations.

  • Oversee collection practices to ensure compliance as it relates to recovery.
  • Provide guidance on collateral repossession and foreclosure of real property.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to Member Relations staff in a naturally negative environment.

  • Developed and led technology initiatives for long-term strategic plans and solutions for projected physical and logical growth.
  • Built and maintained working relationships with vendors and technology partners.
  • Developed application testing procedures and change management policies for application releases ensuring minimal downtime for users and members and regulatory compliance.
  • Improved data backup procedures and retention policies to ensure integrity, security and regulatory compliance.

  • Personally oversaw the six month migration of First Basin's core financial system to a vendor hosted solution which, ultimately, reduced the overhead on the Information Technology staff related to performing system updates, disaster recovery testing/planning overhead and network infrastructure overhead.
  • Personally oversaw the migration to the credit union industry recognized "flagship" online and mobile banking vendor which introduced a number of state of the art features as it relates to digital banking needs.
  • Reduced WAN overhead expenses by $76K per year migrating from to a new provider while increasing bandwidth by 10X.

  • Oversaw the implementation and installation of the McKesson medication dispensing robot and med carousel which greatly improved dispensing efficiency and patient safety.
  • Provided support on HMM operation and troubleshooting as problems arose with the formulary, application usage and updates.
  • Acted as a liaison between the Pharmacy and the Information Technology department as it related to scheduling updates to minimize impact on Pharmacy operations.
