A Place for the Heart is a ministry and community led by Jonathan David and Melissa Helser. Throughout the year, the Cageless Birds run discipleship schools, camps, retreats, and events that are unto wholeness and connection with the Trinity in every area of life. They also run several small businesses which help fund the mission. During my internship my main responsibilities were working in the leather department, and doing childcare for one of the staff families. During the six month discipleship season I lived in a cabin with 9 students and facilitated that space, leading weekly connects and cabin responsibilities. I also led 2 work duty teams and served in many practical areas such as, cleaning, setting up for events, manual labor, and organizing.
During my 7 years with YWAM, I was trained as a student in a Discipleship Training School, a Biblical Core Course, and a Leadership Track. I staffed from there leading different teams overseas for weeks or months at a time. I led and participated in various types of ministries such as street evangelism, bible distribution, bible studies, trafficking ministries, Red Light District work, and mass evangelistic campaigns. When I wasn't overseas I lived in Kona with a YWAM family and nannied for their 6 children. I served the mother of this family (an itinerate speaker) as her PA, building websites and social media platforms, fielding emails and organizing schedules. I also had consistent part-time jobs in the community and started bible studies with my coworkers, leading discipleship groups regularly. I also taught for 3 years in a middle school, teaching the bible class and incorporating art therapy and emotional health tools with a small group of students.
