Volunteer Experience

UCLA Care Extender Program, Volunteer June 2019-July 2019

  • Gained 300+ hours of first-hand patient care by rotating across 4 departments per 12 months such as Pediatrics, Oncology, and Postpartum & attending to the diverse needs of those various patients.
  • Developed teamwork and communication skills through various roles as a part of the healthcare team
    including regularly rounding on patients, discharging patients, and assisting a seizing patient per 4 hour
    shift.
  • Shadowing 5-7 nurses per department as they treat patients to further healthcare exposure/knowledge.
  • Helping direct patients to where they need to go across the 4 buildings of the UCLA Ronald Reagan
    Hospital & answering any questions they may have.

Special Olympics, Assistant Coach August 2019-December 2019

  • Coached basketball where I helped create drills, analyzed performances, and provided feedback to about 30 athletes from the ages of 5-20 alongside 2-3 other coaches.
  • Identifying the strengths and weaknesses of about 20-30 athletes (ages of 5-20) affected by various
    disabilities/disorders to provide encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Monitoring and enhancing the performance of athletes by providing structure through administering
    drills/scrimmages along 5-6 different coaches. Includes traveling to and participating in coaching the team at 2-3 tournaments per 3 month season where athletes compete with other teams across Southern California


SMC Alpha Gamma Sigma Honors Society, Community Service Committee Member

  • Reached out to 20-30 local organizations to set up volunteer events for 250-300 AGS members as a part of the Community Service Committee.
  • I volunteered at 3-4 events per month including the LMU special games, coastal clean-ups, and 5k runs to raise awareness of disorders in an effort to help communities in need.

  • Shared valuable transfer resources to club members, such as holding a meeting in which 5 guest transfer speakers came to discuss their tips on transferring as Psychology-related majors.

  • Invited 4 guest professors specializing in various topics in Psychology to discuss their experiences in Psychology research and graduate school.

  • Collaborated with 5 fellow board members, 13 club members, and 2 advisors to execute the research
    process, from coming up with ideas of a research topic to gathering
  • Led the Honors Society in publishing research for the 1st time in history at the WPA (Western Psychological Association) convention by directing workshops 2x per week over 10 weeks and clearly outlining each step.
