I also work in pre operative care before patients have cataract surgery. It is an office based surgery as Dr. Dean has an OR at our office location. The doctor will typically see around 25 patients. This part of the job consists of :
Putting patients in the proper dressing to go into the OR
Taking vitals
Administering medication (example: Valium) to calm patient nerves.
Reporting to the doctor when anything uncertain arises
Keeping things sterile based on my training and protocol
Responsibility of possessing the keys to the narcotics
Giving eye drops to patients
Going over post operative instructions
Discharging them from the office after their surgery
Answering patient questions before and after the procedure based on my training
Recording accurate and detailed documentation
