Claims Specialist
Social Security Adminstration
YORK , PA
07.2025 - Current
Daily, I interact with customers requesting and applying for Social Security benefits.
I routinely conduct interviews for retirement, disability, and survivor benefits.
Prior to taking the claim, I utilize multiple programs, policies, rules, and regulations to research and develop preliminary eligibility for their application.
As needed, I request tax returns to determine whether benefits will be impacted.
Because most claims I receive are incomplete or inaccurate, I consistently adjust my questions based on the responses I receive.
This allows me to obtain the information needed to determine proper benefits more efficiently.
In determining survivor benefits, I am empathetic to my client’s current situation in requesting marriage certificates, divorce decrees, and custody documents.
I provide the claimant with alternative options for obtaining these difficult documents, which results in overall efficiency.
I ensure I prepare the proper closeout letter, reminding the claimant of the importance of presenting the proper proofs in the allowed time span.
Doing this helps to keep the customer informed, and provides benefits in a timely manner.
I utilize many different programs to research Social Security laws and eligibility for benefits.
This has been evidenced in my most recent appraisal.
Consistently, I assist my office by picking up additional claims when a co-worker calls off sick, and there is no one to assist with a scheduled appointment.
Assisted in the resolution of disputes regarding claims decisions and eligibility.
Educated clients on benefits eligibility and the appeals process as needed.

Other relevant clubs and hobbies. Since I was young, I was always active in playing many different sports baseball, football, basketball, track, cross country and karate. I was fortunate enough to be able to play baseball at the college level and then as a club sport in college. I started off with Karate, then later moved on the Krav Maga, and I am currently continuing to train in boxing and Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu Where Iam currently a blue belt, and have been training for 5 years. Brazilian Jui-jitsu is extremely beneficial, you can subdue a threat without any striking taking place. From each of these different types of martial arts I learned more and more about myself and confrontational situations. The first thing is that most fights can and should be avoided. In addition, this training has taught me that if you can help someone in need, you have a responsibility to help diffuse the situation and intervene. Another important skill I learned is to be calm and relaxed in the face of confrontation.
