Field technician on an ongoing project studying thermal tolerance, habitat selection and behavior of terrestrial and semi-aquatic turtles in Central Pennsylvania. Fieldwork duties include mark/recapture of turtles, tracking via radio telemetry, field measurements of animals, data analysis, and habitat assessment.
We are in the pilot year of an ecological study that examines how threatened box turtles (G. insculpta) and wood turtles (T. carolina) adapt to habitat change and increasing temperatures due to climate change. We are conducting an analysis of habitat quality through on-the-ground temperature and habitat assessment, as well as through the use of remote sensing data. Additionally, we are analyzing turtle fitness and movement patterns through the study area to better understand how these patterns through the study area to better understand how these patterns are affected by changes in temperature and management techniques.
