I have been a live-in caregiver for the past 6-1/2 years. My client was a non-verbal, young woman paralyzed from the waist down. All her daily living activities were my responsibility as she was fully dependent upon her caregivers for everything except she was able to feed herself after her meal was prepared for her.
We had a routine each day that she enjoyed and it gave her security. Transfers were accomplished with the operation of a Shurhands Lift which made them safe and simple for both my client and I. In the morning diaper changes and dressing started her day along with ROM exercises and personal hygiene. Toileting and shower was the routine every evening. Her meals were mostly organic and loaded with fresh produce.
As she had day programs and a few hours of work a week along with church there was the responsibility of driving her in her wheelchair van that had a loading ramp on the side door.
I do have an NAR and besides taking care of her medications I, also, was trained for the duty of wound care that was needed at times.
