When I retired from the active duty Air Force, I joined the Florida Air National Guard as a traditional Guardsmen in 1970, I had no idea that I would Retire with 31 years, 6 month and 24 days of active duty and Air Guard service. I was able to retire as a Chief Master Sargent (E-9) in the same squadron that I joined in 1970. Yes, I was over 87 enlisted men and women that were outstanding in their duties and out performed most active duty squadrons.
I went to many Air Force schools, some were correspondence courses, but many were in residence schools. I was very blessed to have the people under my command that help me get promoted and the schools to assist me in my leadership roll. Again, most of the courses were college credit courses.
I was a member of the Northside Busissmens Club.
An active member of Ezra Lodge #67 and also served as the Master of that Lodge in 2020 and 2021. I still attend Lodge meetings if I am off work in time.
I am the Past Potentate 2009 of Morocco Shriner's in Jacksonville when we had a little over 4,800 members. It was a little like herding cats at times.
Reunion Committee member of our Andrew Jackson High School Class of 1967.
As I am now 75 years old, I do try to keep busy and this job with Nassau Transit kept me from being a couch potato. I took on the task of being assigned the responsibility of pick ups and drop offs of the Dialysis clients 3 days a week, Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's. This job use to start at 3AM and usually ended around 3 -3:30PM. Last year the very early route changed to a now start time of 5:30 AM and usually ends around 4:30 - 5;00 PM. These Dialysis patients are no longer clients, they are friends that endure a lot going through their treatments 3 days a week. I try to keep them laughing and talking on our way to and from Dialysis.
My nextdoor neighbor and his wife are the very best and we mow each others lawns, weed eat and edge the yards, we each have over an
acre each to keep up, plus whatever projects we will be working on. It keeps me busy and my wife Sandy knows exactly where I am and what I am doing.
When I was much younger, I was very active in sports. I played football in High School and in the Air Force, along with baseball and softball. Iuse
to deer hunt, but that along fishing was too time consuming with most times little to show for the time and expense.
I have enjoyed my time driving for Nassau Transit on the Eastside and on the Westside of Nassau County. However, I have been in management at the Phone Company, the Military, the Morocco Shriner's and Masonic Lodges and no longer care to be in charge of anything. I know that I can do whatever I set my mind to, but I no longer have nothing to prove, but I may make suggestions as to make the operation run a little smoother. So, If I am considered for one of the driving positions, I will continue to do my very best with 61 years of driving skills and my people personality will help the riders and me to continue to get along and enjoy each others company.
