As a Certified Nursing Assistant specializing in dementia and memory care, I provide compassionate, person-centered support to individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. My role is not only to assist with physical needs, but also to help create a calm, structured environment that promotes dignity, safety, and emotional well-being.

Key responsibilities include:

• Daily Personal Care: Assisting residents with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and hygiene while maintaining their privacy and independence as much as possible. I adapt my approach based on each resident’s cognitive and emotional state.
• Structured Daily Routines: Helping residents follow consistent routines to reduce confusion and anxiety. This includes guiding them through meals, medication times, activities, and rest periods with patience and positive reinforcement.
• Engagement in Meaningful Activities: Leading or supporting therapeutic and recreational activities tailored to their cognitive level, such as music therapy, sensory stimulation, arts and crafts, reminiscence sessions, or simple physical movement exercises.
• Behavioral Support: Using redirection, validation techniques, and calm communication to de-escalate agitation, confusion, or wandering behaviors. I remain attentive to triggers and adjust care accordingly to reduce distress.
• Companionship and Emotional Support: Building trust and rapport through conversation, touch (when appropriate), and empathy. I provide emotional reassurance and a calming presence, especially for residents experiencing fear, disorientation, or loneliness.
• Health Monitoring: Observing and documenting changes in behavior, mood, appetite, and physical condition. I communicate concerns promptly to nurses or supervisors to ensure timely medical response.
• Promoting a Safe Environment: Ensuring living spaces are free of fall hazards and adapting care to the specific safety needs of residents with cognitive impairment.

• Communicated with physicians, nurses, and other caregivers to exchange information about patient conditions, treatment plans, and activities.
• Monitored patient condition by recording vitals including blood pressure, respiration rates, and body temperature.
• Performed light housekeeping, including cleaning patient rooms and changing sheets on beds.
• Worked alongside dining room personnel to ensure that patients received the correct meals and that all residents were able to eat.
