Summary

I am very willing to relocate. I am very easy with whom to get along. I come from Oakland Ca, one of the most diverse cities in the entire world. I am very proud to be from Oakland it is a truly beautiful city with unsurpassed climate.

Before I became sick (2018) with an auto immune disease (lower extremity arthritis) I was very active athletically, playing basketball, racquet ball, lifted small weights, and other sports in a downtown Oakland Gym. I played every day. I now bicycle everywhere to lose weight and get as much exercise as possible. It will probably take a year or so to get rid of the weight and rebuild some inner core strength, although I can still lift 50lbs if necessary, for example. I am focusing on my health and becoming gainfully employed. I am playing basketball a few times per week at the Minker Sports Complex (a great gym).

Work History

Small Business Owner

Spin City Coin Wash
Las Vegas, NV
02.2016 - 06.2018
  • I bought a laundromat that was breaking even. It wasn't making $50/day.
  • Before buying, I studied the neighborhood closely. I sat in parking and lot and wrote down the fastest and slowest times on a given day. I studied the plaza that housed the laundromat, how were the other businesses doing, who were they (what did they sell), and so on. I made an extensive report on how I thought the laundromat was doing and what could be done to reach the goals I set forth in the same report.
  • Devised processes to boost long-term business success and increase profit levels. This is precisely what I did. I changed the laundromat completely, both aesthetically and in the way we conducted business.
  • I worked over 600 straight days. By that time the laundromat was making $400/day.
  • Unfortunately, I got sick in 2018 and was badly hampered by an autoimmune disease which affected my joints and lower extremities below the knees. After a stint in the hospital, I had to sell the laundromat, after getting on the right medications, including Lasix and Prednisone (a steroid) I am finally ready to return 100% to the work force. My disease is under control and I have every confidence it wil remain that way.
  • I cannot list all of the things I did as a small business owner to be successful. I do have a wonderful reference, a business reference, who owned a business two doors down from mine in the same plaza. She was in my store practically everyday because her washing machines were broken and on unsafe mooring. So she got a first hand look at the turnaround we made at Spin City. I know she would be happy to give any potential employer information about my work ethic and efficiency in running the business. Her name is Sheila Marr. Her # is 702-802-0441.

Caregiver

Mother, Lorene B Benning
Oakland, CA
12.1999 - 12.2013
  • Assisted with dressing guidance, grooming, meal preparation and medication reminders.
  • Assisted my mother with daily living needs to maintain self-esteem and general wellness.
  • Built strong relationships with clients to deliver emotional support and companionship.
  • Cleaned house (to my best ability), ran errands, managed laundry and completed weekly grocery shopping. My mother drove and used a walker, and often shopped, also.
  • My mother, although badly ill with osteoporosis (thinning bones), COPD (pulmonary disease), rheumatoid arthritis (a kind of auto immune disease), a compromised immune system, etc., was a person of high function. After retirement, she worked for the Oakland Natural Museum as a docent. She had photographic memory, and went to Columbia University as a law student in 1944 (19yo); a woman who was way ahead of her time. I miss her everyday.
  • We survived 3 broken legs. Every time she came from the hospital after a few days or so, it was very difficult recovery which lasted months. Each time she got a little worse from the traumatic experience. It was very heartbreaking to witness. She had to use the restroom every 2 hour o thereabouts, and it was taxing, to be honest. But we got through it because she is a strong strong person. I miss her every day.

General Manager of Operations

Kwik Kopy
San Francisco, CA
12.2008 - 12.1999
  • Trained, coached and mentored staff generally speaking.
  • Drove year-over-year business growth while leading operations, strategic vision and long-range planning. I delivered monthly income reports to the owner, and included upcoming jobs to be accomplished, and I made calculations on the future month based upon inventory of work.
  • I began work there as a press operator, but this was not my first rodeo, so to speak, in the printing business, I previously ran printing stores as a de facto owner in my early 20s. I quickly proved my worth and moved up the company ladder.

Golf, which I hope to begin playing again soon.

I have played golf since my early 30s. It is a great game, both physically and mentally. I look to begin playing again soon. I listen to Audible. I must have a 200 book library there. I am a very hard worker. I take pride in my work ethic as I was raised in that manner.
