I grew up in a small town, North Judson, Ind., where the population was less than 2,000 people and the graduating class was 99. There are no boundaries on ambition. The secrets are learning to control the only things one can: effort and attitude, which make the goal of being the most professional person in the room attainable. That's where everything starts, respecting people and understanding that everyone has a story worth telling. And then finding the skills to tell it. Over the course of my media career, I have refined those skills so that no challenge writing, broadcasting, radio or TV seems too daunting.
