Ten at the Top

  • Serve as the first full-time Executive Director for Ten at the Top, a non-for-profit organization in the ten county Upstate region of South Carolina. The mission of Ten at the Top is to foster collaboration and partnerships around issues that impact economic vitality and quality of life across the Upstate region.
  • Manage day-to-day operations for an organization that includes eight full & part-time staff and consultants, 75 board members and more than 150 volunteers serving on various committees or task forces.
  • Oversee financial management, maintaining fiscal responsibility and long-term sustainability for the organization.
  • Serve as the primary fundraiser for the organization. Since 2010, have helped raise more than $8 million, including one grant for $825,000 and multiple other grants and annual funding gifts of $100,000+.
  • Foster an organizational culture that encourages collaboration and a team environment with staff and volunteers.
  • During the initial stage of the organization, engaged more than 10,000 stakeholders from across the Upstate region to develop the Our Upstate Vision that continues to serve as the strategic plan for Ten at the Top's regional outreach and capacity building efforts.
  • Have spent 15 years building relationships with elected officials, community leaders, and business leaders across the Upstate.
  • Serve as the primary community spokesperson for the organization, having made more than 1,000 presentations and public appearances representing TATT over the last 15 years.
  • Have facilitated or supported regional efforts around a wide range of community issues including: K-12 teacher shortage, access to transportation, food insecurity, behavioral health, land use, air quality, workforce development, homelessness & housing affordability, senior needs, and many others.
  • Host the Upstate Gems podcast with guests from across the Upstate region.

  • Coordinated the meetings and logistics for the $800,000 regional visioning effort known as "How Shall We Grow?". Helped manage outreach to over 20,000 stakeholders during the 18-month initiative.
  • Made presentations and helped facilitate community meetings as part of the "How Shall We Grow?" initiative.
  • Wrote much of the content for the "How Shall We Grow?" final report.
  • Coordinated work groups focused on environmental preservation, education, arts & culture and workforce needs.
  • Managed the logistics for more than 20 community meetings and information sessions.

  • Served as the sports media lead for the 21 varsity sports at Rollins College, a Division II institution. Also served as the Assistant Director of Athletics from June 2001-January 2005.
  • Coordinated game-day management as well as event and athlete promotion.
  • Managed staff that annually included two graduate assistants, 10 student assistants and more than 20 gameday employees.
  • Secured media publicity for student-athletes and teams in the Orlando Sentinel, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and multiple television and radio stations in the Orlando market.
  • Designed the first permanent Rollins athletics web site and provided much of the content for the site.
  • Wrote game previews, game summaries, promotional press releases, and many other types of correspondence.
  • Used desktop publishing to design media guides, gameday programs and other marketing material for the athletic teams.
  • Served as staff support for the Rollins Athletic Department Booster Club.
  • Coordinated media relations and gameday operations for more than a dozen Division II national championships in the sports of baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis, and women's tennis.

  • Served as radio play-by-play announcer for basketball and baseball games.
  • Received seven national awards from CoSIDA for sports publications.
  • Served on the media relations team for a multi-day symposium on the Vietnam War with participants including Oliver Stone, Morley Safer, Senator George McGovern, Arlo Guthrie, General William Westmoreland, and other prominent figures from the Vietnam era.

* Creator and primary writer for the sports web site and blog Sports Then and Now, which looks at current sports issues while also providing memories about players, teams and moments from the history of sports. Site was featured on ESPN and articles have been highlighted on multiple sports blogs and web sites across the country.

* Served as a student-assistant in the Sports Information Office at James Madison University for four years. Also wrote for the student newspaper, The Breeze, for four years.
