Responsible for developing and implementing a State Government Affairs, Policy and Advocacy team at Dexcom to further access at the state level and Medicaid for Continuous Glucose Monitors.
Develop strategic state plans with state governments (legislative, executive and administrative) to ensure Medicaid coverage policy, reimbursement and access for CGMs. Responsible for adding and expanding coverage policy and access in 45 states.
Identify, develop and manage strategic relationships with key state government officials to ensure continued access success. Represent Dexcom with strategic state industry and political associations such as Western Governors Association, NCSL, NASBO among others.
Manage grassroots coalition efforts and advocacy partnerships in key states.
Continually assess state policies and legislation and political landscape to understand the impact to Dexcom and communicate to appropriate stakeholders.
Create and manage a team of state contract lobbyists in priority states to achieve state objectives and priorities.
Diabetes Leadership Council: Developed and led an initiative on access to insulin for diabetes patients in the U.S. Created and led one of the first roundtables to discuss insulin affordability which led to an initiative targeted at employers and employer groups.
Diabetes Patient Advocacy Coalition: Created policy statements on behalf of people with diabetes.
Last Mile P/S consultantcy - For Global Novo Nordisk, developed a global diabetes advocacy and communications toolbox by conducting interviews with 15 country affiliates to capture best practices.
National Minority Quality Forum: Completed a $1 million data study on Medicare's Competitive Bidding program that showed increased mortality, hospitalizations and overall health care costs for patients with diabetes. Worked with various partners to develop and implement advocacy activities with Congress and government agencies to suspend the program
Developed and implemented a global strategy and advocacy plan to build relationships with both patient and professional non-governmental organizations and develop public-private partnerships for the Diabetes Care business ($2.5 billion). Worked with country organizations to develop collaborative relationships with advocacy groups at the country level.
Collaborated with the Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics Roche business areas and the Corporate Sustainability team to develop broad access sustainability initiatives. Developed and implemented a $500K pilot on gestational diabetes in Lima, Peru with Harvard School of Public Health.
Led and implemented Roche's activities (global, regional and country levels) in a partnership with external stakeholders and Novo Nordisk in its Changing Diabetes in Children program that provides diabetes management, education and training for 10.000 children with Type 1 Diabetes in Sub-Saharan Africa and India.
Tracked state and federal legislation and policies that could impact Roche Diabetes Care business and developed strategic plans for the Medicaid and Medicare programs and drove Roche's lobbying and advocacy efforts.
