Devin Wedeking

Cedar Rapids

Summary

I have become well established within the DataLink team. I know the processes, have used the tools at an domain expert level, and have executed programs within the team for nearly 13 years. The ability to self-sustain my workload has been highlighted as managers trust the quality presented and the compassion shown to meet the needs of the airlines. This trust has allowed to help build the AOC team via mentorship to accomplish the high standard that it holds today. Whether this is bidding, development, or verification, I have executed each of these aspects in the past with great success. I have built great connections within the team already and with external customers and I look to continue and build on that from an engineering role.

Work History

Lead Technician

Collins Aerospace
05.2011 - Current
  • From 2011-2012, I started as an entry level technician. I have since progressed to lead technician. Starting in government systems, I performed boundary scan operations, built cables, and did verification for displays programs. After that point, I moved over to commercial systems.
  • From 2012-2017, I performed core software verification on the Link2k+, AOA, and ATN programs. This involved developing TCs, TPs, holding PREP reviews, and creating SVPRs/Archives. I ran both the dry run tests and formal tests for all software developed during this time period on the DO-178B Level C/D software. This involved developing test applications of VM Data, Technical Application, AOC, and other various software. This helped guide me down my current role. I had strong familiarity with ACARS and tested POA/AOA/CPDLC communications using various tools such as ATCGroundStation, AAR, and ABLE. Much of the testing wa manual, but I also generated automated tests such as the VDL Console and 8208 tests. In addition, I worked with Aaron Kirkpatrick to develop working prototypes for automated testing with our normal test procedures using a combination of Python, Vista, and ABLE.
  • Also around 2015, I helped transition the SigP verification from Melbourne to Cedar Rapids. I performed tests using Labview running OPB tests as well as testing aural alerts on the RIU-4010 units. I managed verification on these tests until I moved over into the AOC team also within DataLink.
  • From 2012-2020, I managed lab assets and kept the hardware lab stations in working order.
  • I have supported core software activities when available after moving to the AOC team as well such as generating Standard AOC/VM Datas as well as Technical Applications for products such as AOA-015 and AOA-17/ATN-203. I have provided efforts with doing the formal verification on these particular core software.
  • Starting in 2016 and continuing until present day, I moved over full time into AOC/VM Data software development. In this role, we wear many hats. We work directly with customers to generate DO-178 Level E software that will meet their needs. We process their checklists of needs, hold telecons, and develop initial bids that become proposals generating revenue for the company. I've worked with both the EER tool and Bidmaster. We then manage the developments independently essentially, as developers are assigned customers to work on their own meeting the milestones assigned in the proposals. Our group develops AOC/VM Data software for many different platforms. Some are custom for an individual airlines needs, while others are product line solutions. I generate the full requirements, hold customer telecons throughout, and eventually provide a product to the customer. We help to establish a working requirement list as well as broadcast data requirements with the customer to ensure we accurately operate with other peripherals on the plane. We also support live VHF testing in the lab quite often to do in-house verification before the customer loads onto the plane. We manage the verification of our projects as a group then perform software releases to the customer once the software is approved. Throughout the process, we hold scrum meetings managing a Kanban board through JIRA. We manage AOCs for DLM-900, CMU-900 (-101 and -151), CMU-4000, and RIU-4010. I am very well familiarized with each of these platforms and the aircraft interfaces that use them.
  • VM Data and AOC development use various toolsets for generation. I develop software in multiple versions of VMBuilder, as well as use GSE, GSE7, and IMACT for AOCs. We hold trainings to teach customers how to develop AOC Databases themselves over the course of a week. Throughout this course, I teach them the AOC tools along with our verification tool ABLE. I have taught various customers including: AeroData, Air France, Allegiant, Atlas Air, Avianca, Endeavor, GOL, and JetBlue. We maintain training reports and provide customer support in the following months to ensure customers reach their goals.
  • We also provide remote live testing options to which I have supported Air France, Delta, and JetBlue testing on system rigs such as MRJ, CRJ, and A220.
  • We help maintain strong customer relationships by providing support throughout a development lifecycle and also with fielded items. I often provide support for general collateral issues relating to core software or to AOC/VM Data. I frequently collaborate with Customer Support Engineers and Account Managers to ensure the customer remains happy. I have developed software over the years with dozens of different airlines, highlights being Delta, United, American Airlines, and UPS.
  • Throughout the years, the team has frequently changed. I often have helped assist and guide new team members to understand both company culture and the products we are producing at a high level. This has helped to make our team self-sustaining and provide products a customer can trust.
