Got hired as mechanic apprentice performed preventative maintenance on all equipment. Assisted mechanic on larger jobs for crew trucks dozer front loaders backhoes manlifts dump trucks 18 wheelers with trailer (belly dumps flatbeds lowboys). After about 4 months the mechanic I was working under quit and I transitioned to be an environmental tech which consisted of working in the field testing the soil for hydrocarbons (contaminants). Once we would find how deep the oil seeped in the soil we would use heavy equipment to dig out and remove all contaminated dirt and haul off to replace with clean dirt. Also took part in building secondary containments around tank batteries which would prevent any leaks from a tank reaching the soil. This job required training in safety procedures and certification to operate heavy machinery.
