Instructor of Read 290, Critical Reading, Thinking and Literacy, a general education course that prepares students in the development of critical thinking skills, including but not limited to:

• Critically reading and evaluating arguments to identify issues, conclusions, reasons, evidence, fallacies, bias and assumptions

• Comparing and contrasting the merits of opposing arguments, interpretations, assumptions and cultural values

• Reflecting in an open-minded manner on one’s own thinking in relation to the ideas of others

• Distinguishing fact from opinion

• Reaching well-supported factual conclusions and advocate for these conclusions

• Evaluating the sufficiency of evidence in a reading piece

• Writing high quality argumentative essays grounded in evidence and research

• Understanding the history of critical thinking theories and logic

Tutor K-12 students in writing, reading, vocabulary development, critical thinking and public presentation skills using the methods below:

• One-on-one sessions that incorporate standards-based writing skills such as essay structure and revision, APA or MLA formatting, response to literature, research reports, argumentative and persuasive compositions and narrative writing
• Critical thinking skills including questioning and problem solving using Bloom’s Taxonomy, in-depth explanation of main ideas, reasons, facts, details, and evidence in writing
• Reading skills such as text mapping, annotating, charting, outlining, and summarizing
• Teach analysis of rubrics and prompts in order to empower students and help them understand requirements of the assignment
• Public speaking and presenting practice and coaching, with and without cue cards, and incorporating visual aids.

Instructor of READ 96 and 142, courses that prepares students to succeed in college reading through critical reading comprehension, vocabulary strategies, and logical thinking skills, using the methods below:

• Project Based Learning, where students investigate a complex topic and create a final portfolio showcasing their mastery of all reading and vocabulary strategies learned throughout the semester
• Plan and create course content (readings, assignments, projects and discussion topics) in a culturally relevant context
• Mentoring, advising and tutoring students outside of class via email or meeting before and after class
• Monthly conferencing with students during lab hour to reflect on progress in class and provide individualized academic support and scaffolding
• Small and large group work settings to empower students to work cohesively and contribute their personal sociocultural knowledge to a reading assignment
• Reading, critical analysis and discussion of culturally relevant articles, essays and political speeches where all students contribute to clarifying and understanding the reading process
• Self-reflection of understanding and mastery of learning outcomes outlined in syllabus
• Collaborate with Reading Department colleagues to plan and improve instruction, organize trainings, and present materials

• Instructor of READ 80 and READ 90, courses that prepare students for efficient and effective reading comprehension along with vocabulary development strategies, using the methods belo
• Plan and create course content (readings, assignments, projects and discussion topics) in a culturally relevant context to bridge the gap between necessary reading skills and each student’s sociocultural background
• Ensure equity by considering student’s learning styles, linguistic and intellectual needs, and developmental education research to inform instructional practices
• Provide continuous instructional support throughout class to ensure students feel supported and empowered to ask for help when needed
• Mentor students on an ongoing basis throughout the semester to make sure they are on track to passing my class while helping them progress towards graduation and meeting transfer requirements
• Create a cooperative environment where students work together throughout class to master skills, complete work and add to the group’s understanding of the topic being discussed
• Hold weekly office hours and communicating with students daily via email to provide further academic support to students
• Maintain high standards for students by using exemplars and asking students to resubmit failing work after receiving specific feedback from me on how to improve the assignment
• Collaborate with Learning Assistance department colleagues to plan and improve instructional practices in professional development workshops.

• 7th grade
• Collaborate with grade level team to develop a cohesive curriculum, classroom culture, and supports for students
• Develop curriculum that combines social science content and reading comprehension skills
• Provide explicit instruction in social science using a variety of methods inclusive of technology and in accommodation of students with special learning needs
• Employ a variety of diagnostic, formative and data-driven assessments throughout learning units to inform and adapt daily instructional activities
• Serve as a co-chair of the Lakeview Student Leadership committee to promote a variety of initiatives, activities and unity throughout campus
• Actively participate in monthly professional development activities such as benchmark data analysis and literacy development curriculum.

• Face-to-face interactions with all account executives, walk-in customers and upper management to insure smooth communication of customer needs and proper underwriting and business procedures
• Manage, organize and process several hundred applications, driver records, and credit reports monthly to authorize vanpool drivers prior to vanpool delivery
• Contact customers each day over the phone to facilitate driver approval process and provide any support they need
• Help spearhead project to transfer and streamline all paper applications to an online driver approval system
• Maintain database of over, driver authorization documents to meet insurance standards on an ongoing basis
• Support sales and accounting staff to maintain accurate billing statements and lease renewals
• Mentor and support two part-time employees for special projects.
