Volunteer Work

Volunteered with the Luke Air Force Base Biology and Ecology team to help with breeding pronghorns by setting up pronghorn pens and helping release the pronghorns into the pens. I have also assisted with having to collect bats at a popular bat cave near Yuma for observation and conducted bat tagging to track individual bats and compare observations by collecting feces samples to analyze for pathogens or diseases. I measured bats for size, length, and other morphological data. Analyzed previous sample results and observed cases of white-nose syndrome in bats. Monitored fish health to detect and prevent diseases and illnesses that could impact other aquatic environments. Assisted with the fish stocking program by transferring fish to water tank trucks for transport to stocked lakes. I have helped at the fish hatchery in Payson where I helped manage fish habitats to ensure optimal growth conditions for healthy and genetically diverse fish populations. Checked water supply systems for malfunctions and monitored for bacteria or algae growth. Cleaned tanks to maintain a healthy and clean environment for the fish. Collected and recorded data on fish behaviors, breeding, and growth rates to assess fish health and development. Gained valuable knowledge about fish species in Arizona and fishing techniques through hands-on experience.
