Many projects take many years to get to the construction phase and some of that early work is where I often get involved. My part of that is typically developing scope of work, making suggestions to the design team and owners, creating a budget, and writing reports.
Consulting with the design team to develop scope is very important. Acting as the historic masonry restoration subject expert, I can identify things that the other team may not be thinking of or might not be apparent to them at first glance. This saves time and money from unforeseen change orders during the construction phase.
On-site consulting during the construction process is important as well to ensure that the contractors performing the work are adhering to best practices and historic preservation guidelines for the given jurisdiction.
