Develop and present fire and life safety educational programs and support the Environmental Safety Section with educational programs geared toward residents, community groups, businesses, and City personnel. Assist the Public Safety Support Services clerical staff with scheduling station tours, apparatus requests, fire drills, block party applications, and other miscellaneous events as necessary. Track and maintain up-to-date statistics on community outreach efforts. Serve as a Fire Department representative to local residents, governmental agencies, community groups, private businesses, and others concerning questions and activities related to public education. Develop, modify, coordinate, and deliver public education and information programs and special related projects. Prepare and develop fire and life safety outreach materials, support the Environmental Safety Section with outreach materials, and contribute to the City newsletter. Prepare general correspondence, summary reports, and records of activities. Recruit and coordinate additional volunteer resources for community education and outreach programs. • Enforce compliance with city regulations and ordinances pertaining to land use, zoning, nuisance housing, building codes, and health and safety.
• Conducts various field investigations.
• Conducted follow-up site visits to check compliance with corrective actions implemented to address violations.

• Perform routine safety evaluations and inspections of new and existing buildings, structures, and installations requiring fire clearances; identify fire hazards; recommend corrective actions; perform follow up inspections to confirm corrective actions have been take.
• Prepare reports related to fire prevention and mitigation activities.
• Respond to requests for information relating to exterior fire hazards from public and district staff.
• Inspect property for weed and combustible materials that may constitute fire hazards and write correspondences setting forth violations and conditions for abatement.
• Enforce fire prevention regulations including exterior hazard and general fire hazard notices.
• Participate in fire prevention projects such as fuels reduction.
• Make mitigation recommendations based on wildland fire behavior.
• Accurately assess potential for structure ignitions in wildland/urban interface fire.

• Participates in pre-suppression activities including hazardous reduction/weed abatement inspections and fire hazard reduction defensible space work on public and private property.
• Provides home hardening, defensible space fire prevention and fire hazard reduction information to the public, department personnel, and other agencies.
• Recommends when an abatement notice on a property should be served and notifies property owner(s) or occupant(s).
• Explains Marin County’s abatement program regulations, costs and procedures to property owners.
• Utilizes electronic devices to input and collect data.
• Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files, and records.
• Composes letters and reports based on field notes

• Monitoring and videotaping various individuals as they conduct their normal day-to-day activities.
• Note-taking and detailed report rendering on the activities captured by the investigator.
