Dear Reader,
I am the Closing Manager of the restaurant The York in Syracuse NY. Haily came to us in a desperate time of need in early 2022. As I am sure you are aware, the service industry took a hit during the 2020 pandemic and has never fully bounced back. I had no idea Haily’s addition to our team was exactly what we needed. She has and still continues to far exceed our expectations and her roles.
What I mean by her constantly exceeding her roles is, she frequently goes above and beyond; doing things that I, as a manager, normally have to do to pick up the slack and pace due to being short staffed. She was originally hired as a host, yet whenever there was down time she'd help with side work or other departments in the restaurant; instinctively. She is very much a busy body. All while having a playful attitude other staff members love. Noticing this, I crossed trained and promoted her to server immediately. In which she took to the role like a fish to water.
What makes her yet another great asset to our restaurant is her de-escalation ability. In restaurants, there can be high tension between staff or customers during busy periods of business. On several occasions, I have witnessed her depoly de-escalation techniques with disgruntled guests and staff alike. The most notable time I have observed her was in an altercation with our Chef. Forgive my metaphor, but it was like watching a Jedi mind trick. It was truly impressive to witness her calm our argumentative chef. For these reasons: easily trainable, doing the roles of others when never asked, and de-escalation skills, is what makes her an asset to us and any future company."
