These projects were created to prevent a bike frame from failing. Bikes are subjected to cyclic loading during normal usage, which can impact the structural integrity of critical components, particularly the frame. The goal of the first project was to use Finite element analysis(FEA) simulations to redesign the bike frame for a safety factor of at least 2 while preventing failure due to yielding. The second project aims to analyze a bike frame's fatigue life under fluctuating loads. Both projects start with two weight distributions: 50%/50% and 70%/30% to test the affects of loading. To test fatigue life, a given CAD model of a bike frame underwent simulations using finite element analysis in ANSYS. The results were then processed through nCode simulations using both the stress-life and strain-life approaches, with a given fluctuating load scaling history and a 90% probability of survival.
