I am someone who has little trouble with interpreting what a person is trying to say without seeming overly rude. I can arrive on time within schedule and have no problems with being told what to do.
I sat at the front desk and assisted whoever came in with whatever they needed. The person typically wanted to visit their family in the nursing center, in which case I directed them to a nurse who would know which room their family member was staying in. I also dealt with phone calls. I would direct the phone calls to the corresponding person who would be best suited to answer it. For example, if a member of a family called, I would redirect the phone to a nurse who was responsible for the member of that family. If a Doctor called, I would redirect them to the Director of Nurses.
I shadowed a Nurse for 8 hours a day in order to learn how to take care of elderly patients. I learned how to change bedsheets, how to make small talk with elderly people, and how to be very patient and intuitive with people who didn't speak the english language or could not speak at all.
