I genuinely enjoy this job. Inviting people feel a connection, a quick witticism  that puts a smile on their face, lending a sympathetic ear, doling out questionable advice, making folks feel safe to unwind, socializing the unsociable, the ingredient interplay and proportions that make a great tasting cocktail, orchestrating the tone of an entire room, organizing the visual presentation, standing your ground in an impossible situation, the pride of being told “you’re the best bartender ever” even if it’s not true.

I’ve always tried to be the bartender I would want to have serve me, and if I go home at the end of the shift knowing I improved someone’s day, I feel like that’s what it’s all about.

That and the money. 😉
