I learned many different jobs here. I started working on the line sorting material. From there went to operating equipment which included forklifts, skidsteers, loaders, trackmobiles and material handlers. I was also trained in purchasing non ferrous and ferrous products. I was tasked with being the back-up to run our feeder yard, Harry's. I then became a supervisor in charge of maintenance programs such as preventative maintenance, dealing with equipment breakdowns, and also all other tasks in the yard such as sampling and fire extinguisher maintenance. I ordered everything for the yard, from coffee to water and all ppe and parts for machines. I was involved in the yearly budgeting process also.
I started off as just a crew member. We performed all landscaping duties from leaf removal and snow removal to cutting grass. Keeping the other two members of my crew on task was my biggest responsibility. I was given a list every morning and my goal was to finish the list by the end of the day. It was hardwork but satisfying when you left a property looking pristine.
I was part of a landscaping crew. I cut grass, blew leaves, plowed snow, salted and maintained beds. My boss Tom was a stickler for perfection and here I learned what a properly manicured property looked like. He was hard to work for but giving our customers top notch service felt good.
