Work History

Field Performance Engineer

John Deere Power Systems
Waterloo, Iowa
07.2018 - Current
  • Monitored telematics data from thousands of vehicles in the field to identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot and engine and after-treatment performance issues.
  • Leveraged comprehensive knowledge of diesel engine performance, exhaust after-treatment, and related controls to assist in root cause failure analyses.
  • Coordinate and align with engineering teams across John Deere to provide data from the field and relay potential issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Utilize simulation software (GT-SUITE) and mathematical modeling (MathCAD, MATLAB, etc.) to improve diagnostic and performance analysis capabilities.
  • Direct, in-person, support of custom harvest crews during the annual wheat harvest surge in the Midwest. Troubleshooting and repair of combines in the fields of Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
  • Development and support of data analysis tools in various commercial software packages (DIAdem, MATLAB, Databricks, GT-Suite)

Combustion Development Engineer

John Deere Power Systems
Waterloo, Iowa
02.2015 - 07.2018
  • Responsible for daily test direction and data analysis for a single cylinder diesel research engine. Required efficient communication with union workforce to prepare, develop, and execute tests.
  • Developed an extensive understanding of the mechanics and kinetics surrounding diesel combustion.
  • Leveraged this understanding to develop performance and emissions tradeoffs and to understand the impacts of combustion system design features.
  • Reported combustion system performance tradeoffs out to larger team to integrate with performance modelling and propose new design iterations.
  • Supported the development of the combustion system for the new John Deere 8400R tractor, as well as the X9 Combines, both of which are industry leaders in fuel efficiency.

EDP Engineer

John Deere Power Systems
Waterloo, Iowa
12.2013 - 02.2015
  • The John Deere Engineering Development Program is a two-year rotational program where an employee spends 8 months in 3 separate engineering positions.
  • First position was Field Support, with the Dealer Technical Assistance Center (DTAC). Fielded calls from dealership technicians to provide diagnostic and troubleshooting assistance. Also developed technical solutions to proactively notify dealerships of known issues and recommended steps to resolve.
  • Second position was in Air System Component Development. Coordinated with external suppliers as well as internal engineering teams to develop new components for the engine's air system (turbochargers, EGR coolers, valves and actuators, etc.).
  • Final position was in Combustion System Development. Provided test direction and data analysis for research engines to optimize design and specifications of diesel fuel injectors, pistons, and cylinder heads.
