Medical Assistant/Unit Secretary/OR Scheduler

My daily duties include, but are not limited to, taking vitals, checking blood glucose, assisting nursing staff during labor and delivery, completing 24-hour screenings for newborn hearing, blood draws, and assisting patients with post-delivery care.

The Secretary to the unit included answering multiple phones, scheduling patients for inductions and surgeries, scheduling newborn appointments, creating and updating the unit calendar, entering birth certificates into vital statistics databases, assisting patients with newborn paperwork, creating patient charts, and assisting with hospital admissions.

As the General Surgery OR Scheduler, my duties include, but are not limited to, meeting with patients and scheduling surgeries with general surgeons. Organize four busy surgeons' schedules while using Epic Workspace and Outlook Calendar. Work closely with physician offices to obtain clearances, and with patients to meet all pre-surgical requirements. Communicate through Microsoft Teams and Tiger Text with the OR staff and surgeons in order to maximize utilization time in the OR.

Affiliations

  • As President of the WSHS Varsity Cheer Boosters, my goal was to raise funds to assist with large bills for camp and seasonal items. I managed monthly meetings, coordinated volunteers to plan, organize, and run fundraisers. Seek donations to assist cheerleaders with bills for the season, create spreadsheets and order forms for team fundraising, set up team payment portal, and submit booster account funds to appropriate vendors, coordinate camp outfits, snacks and accessories for camp.
  • As a volunteer I obtained clearances to assist coaches during practices. I coordinated Pine Forest Cheer Camp following the UCA rules. I communicated information to parents regarding practices, billing and scheduling for coaches. I was the contact for Varsity to set up uniform sizing and order seasonal items for the team. In this role, my goal is to keep cost down to make cheerleading affordable and therefore making it more inclusive.
  • A personal goal is to give back to our community. I have arranged community service with United Cerebral Palsy, Susan Komen Foundation, Head Start Daycare, Cinderella’s Closet, St. Joseph's Center and other local fundraisers to help sick or unfortunate individuals in our community. I believe the girls participating in the community are a positive reflection of our school.
  • As PTA President, my responsibilities range from planning events, communicating with school faculty and parents, and organizing monthly meetings. This position also included recruiting new volunteers, organizing events, fundraisers, managing funds for students, and improving our program.
