Working in General and Plastic Surgery clinic mostly in General Surgery since that was my main clinic but would cover Plastic Surgery if they need help to cover personal or if someone was out, since we had the same manager. In my main job role being a patient service rep and referral clerk; I would answer the phones and triage them the the correct clinic or personal, Check in and out patients, scheduling and rescheduling appointments, obtaining ID and insurance and updating them in the system as well phone numbers, addresses or any changes needing to be done in the patients chart, obtaining co-pays and previous balances, scanning documents into the patient charts like POA's and other records, scheduling patients imaging and calling them with the information of the test. In addition, being a referral clerk I would work mostly internal referral but I would work externals I work with a surgical oncologist for 4 years and mostly diagnosis like BRCA positive patients, breast cancer, but also lymphoma, melanoma, sarcoma and other skin cancers. Also, working in general surgery as a referral clerk, I would receive the referral from the referring providers office and go through the medical record to verify if the patient was a correct fit to the clinic due to their diagnosis and if more information was needed I would contact the referring providers office and obtain any additional record like imaging, reports, pathology slides or pathology reports and would scan all the information into the patients chart and would schedule the patient for new patient appointment. Also, if the patient would need to be transferred out to an external clinic I would send the referral to the patients provider or clinic of their choosing.
