I have been recognized by multiple elementary schools as an excellent substitute and have been asked personally to come back and subsstitute teach for them.
From 2000 through 2001 I participated in a program through my high school called Cadet Teaching. This program gave me experience in an elementary school setting, allowing me to learn skills in classroom management, lesson planning, and running records.
From September of 2017 through the Spring of 2023 I had volunteered in a kindergarten classroom at Southeast Kelloggsville Elementary School in Wyoming, Michigan. The teacher and I have a great friendship and we communicate great together. Under her instruction, I would take the students into the hallway individually and go over phonics, phonemic awareness, reading skills, and math. I also provided extra help for the students that struggle in certain areas. I was fortunate enough to help her set up her classroom at the beginning of the year, tear down her classroom at the end of the year, and substitute for her.
When my two children were in elementary school I volunteered in their classrooms from preschool through fifth grade. I was a field trip chaperone, assistant with large projects, I reviewed sight words and reading skills, read stories aloud, and tutored in math.
