Teaching Philosophy

I believe that as Special Education teachers we must promote inclusion as much as possible within our classrooms while still staying within the requirements of each particular student’s IEP. When teaching students in Special Education I believe that we as teachers should use differentiated instruction to meet the present needs of all of the students in the classroom, while maintaining a fun, interesting learning environment. All I ask of my students is to give me their best effort, and to remember that effort is one of the most important qualities when it comes to school, and life. I feel I do a good job of relating to my students, it is something that I like to do when a student is upset or is having trouble figuring out a problem or question, this builds trust and helps the students have confidence in themselves. One thing I’ve learned about my teaching philosophy throughout my career is that it is important to be flexible in education, especially special education, as you never know what may happen and the plan may change. More than anything I believe that we should encourage our students to try their best, to work hard, and to have the drive to want to succeed. If the students don’t see the passion we have for their success, how will they have that passion for their own success? It is my job as their teacher to help build that passion and confidence for them.
