I am convinced that work is the exercise of judgment and discretion to achieve desired outcomes. This is done while working within prescribed parameters. Following this belief, the organizations that I have led have never failed to achieve designated objectives. I have served on several boards of directors and fully understand the process of working cooperatively with others to achieve desired results. I have thrived in the public arena where the skill to recognize what needs to happen to achieve progress is particularly essential.
Headed up financial functions. Negotiated master agreement with Seton Family of Hospitals. Negotiated leases for parking garage and Clinical Education Building with Seton. Headed up master planning project for the redevelopment of the Brackenridge Hospital tract.
Headed up effort to secure purchased power agreements to enable the doubling of the capacity of the South Texas Nuclear Power Project. The project fell through in the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster.
Following a series of scandals that brought federal and state scrutiny to the largest electric cooperative in the country, was brought in to get them through the transition to a more open and stable environment. Negotiated major power agreement with LCRA with a value of several billion dollars.
After the abrupt departure of the current CEO, stepped in to achieve a smooth for the incoming CEO.
Led a staff of, roughly, 3,000 employees. Negotiated several labor agreements. Renegotiated industrial district contract with port industries. Secured major water agreement with Lavaca Navidad River Authority; and purchased 35,000 acre feet of water rights from the Garwood Irrigation District, thereby securing Corpus Christi water needs for at least 100 years.
The staffs that I have led have accomplished very significant results. From the mundane like transitioning from a manual finance and accounting system to a fully digital system in one third of the allotted time; to securing a city's water future; to becoming the first municipally owned utility to achieve ISO registration; to getting a cooperative through the most scandalous period in their history; the staff of employees that I led got it done. There are many CPA's CFO's, CEO's City Managers and others that worked for me, scattered throughout the country and doing quite well.
