My name is Kang Liang, 28 years old. I was born into a Seventh-day Adventist family in China. My father and grandfather are both pastors, and my uncle is an associate professor at AIIAS. Therefore, even though I was born in a country that advocates atheism and attended public schools, I still inherited a steadfast commitment to faith from my family. At the year I graduated from college, I experienced God in an amazing way. I began to realize that the God of my family is also my God. Then I wanted to know more about God, which led me to apply to Andrews University to pursue an MDiv degree. A series of questions: What kind of being is God? How can God's existence be proven? How does salvation work? How has the Church developed throughout history? drove me forward and ignited this journey. Over the past few years, my understanding has gradually deepened. I no longer confine myself to proving God through logic, nor do I indulge in speculation about metaphysical matters unaddressed by Scripture. I have rediscovered my passion for history, aspiring to stand on the shoulders of the early Church Fathers to trace the footprints of Jesus through the history.
In 2023, I took over this task from Brother Yang (a former MDiv student) to help facilitate communication between The NASYAA and Andrews University chinese students. I am very grateful to Dr. James Tsai for the opportunity he gave me.
I have been helping this fellowship since 2019, initially taking on roles during worship (such as music, preaching, Sabbath School teacher, etc.), then I started handling sound equipment responsibilities, which I continue to do so to this day. Last semester (Fall 2024), I started forming a youth group with other brothers and sisters.
During the AMD program, I was involved in many ministries. Since the Church had a small, mostly elderly congregation, Dr. Shepherd provided many opportunities for me to serve and learn how to operate a Church. Those ministries included visitation, all roles during worship, Sabbath School Teacher and Leader (both Children or Adults), some roles in an evangelistic meeting.
I worked as an academic advisor in the A-level classes at Shinway Education. My main responsibilities included supervising the students' studies and helping them schedule their courses. Additionally, I provided after-school tutoring for Mathematics 1 and 2. Although the company offered me a full-time position in May, I resigned considering my upcoming studies at Andrews University.
