13 hours/week Total Hours: 676

Grades: 9,10,11,12

  • As a member of PCD's varsity soccer team, I dedicate many hours to training, practice, and games. I have developed many valuable skills from the sport, such as teamwork, time management, leadership, and respect. Being one of the better players on the team since freshman year the coaches have always relied on me to help other teammates and maintain a positive and encouraging attitude to ensure everyone is having a great experience. I officially became one of the two captains' senior year and I am tasked with a challenging year, as everyone on the team is either a sophomore or a freshman. This means not many of them have experience playing the sport so it's my responsibility to help them become the best players they can be and not get frustrated when mistakes are made and instead help them correct their mistakes.

High School Varsity Lacrosse

March, 2021 - Present

13 hours/week Total Hours: 516

Grades: 9,10,11,12

  • I dedicated a lot of time to lacrosse practice, training, games, and out-of-school practice as I had never played the sport before and needed extra training. I had never played lacrosse before my freshman year of high school and decided I wanted to try something new. Playing a new sport helped me become comfortable with being uncomfortable and not immediately being the best at something. I learned a lot about patience and hard-work when it came to trying to master this new skill. I am now one of the captains of the team as a senior, and I feel completely comfortable playing the sport and sharing my knowledge and experience with my younger teammates to help and support them the same way I did.

Volunteer Service

Junior Coach

Bayside Junior Academy, East Providence

August, 2023 - September, 2023

2 hours/week Total Hours: 8

Grades: 10

  • At Bayside Junior Academy I volunteered as a coaching assistant or junior coach. I worked alongside coaches from my club soccer team to coach kids ranging from ages 4-9 years old. Each session was an hour long and I supervised kids' drills and scrimmages giving them pointers, encouragement, and advice. I developed strong leadership skills and learned the importance of demonstrating good behavior because I had little kids looking up to me and they followed by example.

Camp Counsler

Providence Country Day Summer Camp , East Providence

July, 2023 - July, 2023

40 hours/week Total Hours: 40

Grades: 10

  • For one week during the summer, I volunteered at PCD's summer camp where I worked the Fashion Camp. I spent the day helping kids bring the designs they had drawn to life by cutting and sewing various fabrics to create a masterpiece. I was in charge of bringing kids into the room in the morning and dismissing them in the late afternoon, bringing them to lunch, checking everyone in and out, and making sure everyone was doing what they were supposed to be doing. I learned how to deal with frustration and tears when projects didn't turn out the way kids wanted them and learned a great deal of patience when I had to tell kids multiple times to do something. We successfully put on a fashion show where all the kids' parents came and saw what their child had created and left with proud smiles on their faces.

Volunteer

Matthewson Church Kitchen for Homeless , Providence

January, 2023 - February, 2023

4 hours/week Total Hours: 12

Grades: 10

  • Early on Sunday mornings, I drove to Matthewson Church where I helped them prepare and hand out breakfast and necessities such as socks, blankets, and coats to homeless people. We were even able to arrange bus passes for some of the homeless people living in Providence who came to the Church. From this experience, I became aware of just how many people were homeless in Providence and it inspired me to give back to my community as much as I can because I am fortunate enough to have a roof over my head and other resources these people don't have access to. After talking to some of the people I realized just how different all our lives are and how fortunate I am to live the life I live. There are often misconceptions about homeless people and while sometimes these stereotypes prove to be true often they're not and these people are just struck with bad luck. This eye-opening experience taught me the importance of not judging a book by its cover and made me recognize the privilege I possess and how to use that privilege for the betterment of society.
