I am employed as a program coordinator for two of the Center’s Beyond the Medical Center Programs including Minds in Motion and Stepping Up
For Minds in motion I develop, prepare, and facilitate a bi-weekly program where the goal is to improve or maintain mental, physical and emotional well-being for persons with dementia and memory loss
I also lead a weekly Stepping Up group which involves persons with dementia and memory loss as well as their caregiver
This program is an evidence based exercise program that reduces the risk of falls and keeps the body active
Beyond the facilitation of these programs I also help promote all of the Center’s programs, provide training for volunteers, compile and summarize information for research, make presentations in the community for program promotion and education, collect and organize data as required for grants, develop and organize home exercise programs for participants, provide periodic assessments for all Stepping Up participants, and represent the Smith Alzheimer’s Center at SIU and external functions.

Madison Adoption Associates

My duties at Madison Adoption Associates included communicating with families in the process of adopting internationally regarding all of their post adoption requirements
Once the reports were sent in by the families, I had to edit, organize, and send them to the specific country of the adopted child’s origin
I also promoted international adoption in the community and via online outlets, as well as provided education to prospective families regarding the adoption process
Madison Adoption Associates is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency and earned full Hague Accreditation in November 2008.

I assisted patients living in a skilled care facility with physical movements to help restore function and lessen pain and disability
My duties were to carry out the physical therapy plan of care as written by the supervising PT to increase function and improve the patients’ ADLs and independence.

First Choice/Vital Wellness

My role at First Choice was to assist patients living at home and in assisted care facilities with physical movement to help restore function and lessen pain and disability
I carried out the plan of care as written by the PT to increase function, improve balance, and maintain independence within the patient’s home.
