I developed and administered a giving back to the community effort for the Jackson Interfaith Shelter in 2021.
"Sharing Food, Sharing Love" program.
This program was about preparing a homemade meal, once a month, serving between 100-120 people, and to also have five Consumers Energy (CE) Employees or retirees to volunteer at the shelter once or twice a month. With employees volunteering, the shelter would received a $250.00 grant from CE, for each meal served.
I had to follow strick company guidelines, to ensure proper monetary collections from employees and records of funds spent.
I would work with the shelter on scheduling dates and send emails to employees to volunteer, contribute food, or give a monetary donation.
I did need to bring on some co-workers to help and volunteer their time to this program.
This program started only in the Real Estate Team department and now has since grown company wide.
In addition, we starting collecting cans for funds to purchase any items the shelter needed off their amazon wish list. We have purchased items such as a snake for their sewer line, health care produces, shower slippers, and extra food they may need.
Last year we were able to grant $12,000.00 to the shelter and had almost 700 people volunteer.
This program has taught me how I could empower myself, manage and communicate with several employees.
All it takes it one simple idea, and see how it can impact others and make a difference.
