The Transportation Driver for the Department of Children and Families (DCF) is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of children, families, and individuals involved in DCF services. This role ensures passengers reach their destinations securely while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and sensitivity to the needs of vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safe Transportation & Logistics:
• Transport children, parents, foster families, and other clients to and from appointments, court hearings, visitations, placements, and other required locations.
• Ensure adherence to traffic laws and safety regulations at all times.
• Plan and adjust travel routes based on road conditions, time constraints, and safety considerations.
2. Passenger Safety & Well-Being:
• Ensure the physical and emotional safety of passengers, particularly children who may be experiencing trauma or distress.
• Properly secure car seats and seatbelts for all passengers as required by law.
• Monitor and manage passenger behavior, using de-escalation techniques when necessary.
3. Confidentiality & Professionalism:
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding case details, client identities, and any sensitive information.
• Treat all passengers with dignity, respect, and compassion, recognizing the challenges they may be facing.
• Communicate professionally with caseworkers, foster families, and other DCF staff.
4. Vehicle Maintenance & Documentation:
• Conduct routine vehicle inspections, ensuring cleanliness, proper fuel levels, and mechanical safety.
• Report any vehicle maintenance issues promptly and follow agency protocols for repairs.
• Accurately complete trip logs, mileage reports, and any required documentation.
5. Emergency Response & Problem-Solving:
• Follow agency procedures for handling emergencies, accidents, or behavioral incidents during transport.
• Notify supervisors of any concerns regarding passenger safety or welfare.
• Remain calm and composed in high-stress situations, ensuring appropriate responses to unexpected events.
This role requires patience, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with children and families in difficult circumstances. The Transportation Driver plays a critical role in supporting DCF’s mission by ensuring safe, reliable, and compassionate transport services.
