Assisted Border Patrol in processing family units in custody. Initially started in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) using existing technology, CBP officers were able to conduct interviews and complete case work remotely for groups apprehended by BP. This served as a force multiplier. After success in RGV the program was expanded to the Yuma and Del Rio Sectors and included processing single individuals.

Supervised 70 officers nationwide on this Virtual processing TDY. The various Sectors had different requirements and activities they needed OFO support. For example, RGV requested that we do cases, records checks and Field Officer Juvenile Coordination calls, whereas Del Rio needed support completing Title 42 returns and Yuma just needed simple case work.

OFO officers completed 46,498 cases or case support actions. During the 115 days, OFO officers averaged 404.3 cases per day. Basing travel on standard GSA per diem rates, an average $500.00 in airfare, and an appropriate number of rental cars, the estimated cost of a physical deployment of this nature would have been $1,891,300.00.
