Well it started at 17 in front of a 2 story sand pile a week before my highschool graduation at a Tops in Cortland,NY. My father worked for Despirt Mosaic and Marble, and that was a long summer before college. That summer we worked at Tops, and then at Grand Island HS, Salamanca HS, and Alfred St. Every Summer and Mid Break from college I worked for Despirt till I joined the Union in May 2000.
And the rest they say is history.
I owe everything I have to the trades which took me on a ride that included lot of highs and lows. But through it all I have been able to experience a lot of ins and outs of the industry. Working for Dan Hull gave my first insight into project managing, field managing, estimating, etc. and from there I gathered a knowledge of the way the industry works.
When I decided to start my own company, Sabre Tile Corp I had the an idea that nobody really had at the time- offering both bid packages for Hard and Soft Goods. With that I was Signatory with both of those Unions. We did some good things, had some good jobs, and we had some stinkers. I believe the only Job I had for BCC was when they first turned over at the pumping plant for Mike Curtain.
I figured if I was going to try and take a big swing for the fences back then, and I eventually struck out.
But through it all, I worked in the field on, managed, bid, subbed, estimated, and completed a lot of commercial projects in WNY and beyond.
I have relationships and tiled some of the trades owners houses like Duke Riley from Danforth, Omar from DVBrown, Bob Williams from RW, Tim McCluskey from Shades, Louis Rodriguez, Nick Kwitek from Horizon Masonry, Pat Jerge From Casella. Even some former and current employees of BCC.
Having been out of the commercial trades the last couple years and into the residential, I have had a longing to get back in.
I do not know where I would fit in for BCC, but I'm hopeful that with my experience in the industry BCC may have a role that fits their philosophies and agendas.
