• Female high school students, who have completed their junior year are competitively selected by former delegates and sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary units for this program, where they learn about the political process by electing officials for all levels of state government and actively running a mock government
• I went through an interview and application process with the LA county representative to be selected for the Girls State program

• They envision a future for Black women and girls where, in our full wellness, we use our power and intelligence to pursue and attain healthy lives and families

• I have had the opportunity to start volunteering and learning more about the injustices Black women and girls have to face while trying to obtain a healthy lifestyle and healthcare

• On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I have the opportunity to help my former tennis coach run his after-school and summer program
• During this time, I assist with teaching and giving tennis lessons to kids in the inner city community
• Since I was seven, I have been playing tennis, and my love for the sport has only grown

• I organize Vista-Visits and show students around the school; I walk them through a day in our lives
• I am responsible for developing and implementing different family mixers and helping plan the Black family mixers, so parents have an opportunity to come out and experience our school
• I also help with hosting orientations for freshmen students

• I was able to gain work experience as well as further my interest and knowledge in law, at the Schumer Law Firm throughout the summer of my junior year
• I worked to design new logos for the firm's business emails, as well as assist in office tasks such as filing, and shadowed some of the lawyers on their day to day work

• I am currently a leader in the multicultural heritage space
• This space is an affinity space that offers the opportunity for all students of mixed race to come and talk about anything on our hearts and minds
• We mention topics from racial prejudice to simply just venting and relating to one another
• As a leader, I plan activities, group discussions, and events surrounding identity

• As a mentor to Affinity and Alliance Groups, I help guide my peers as they reflect upon and navigate through the complexities of various social identities, including race, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexuality, and nationality

• The Student Hiring Committee is a panel of around ten students who interview possible teachers who are applying to work at Vistamar
• I was selected by the faculty and administration through interview and application
• We formulate questions to ask the candidates and get to know them to see if they would fit in our community
• Being on the student hiring committee offers the students an opportunity to practice real-life interview skills and an opportunity to collaborate together as we process who would be the best fit as a new addition to our school

• I was an active member of the Black Student Union, and the African American mentorship at Vistamar High School all four years
• During my time involved, I was able to focus on making changes to the inequalities at my school, as well as connect and support my community

• I work in the adult and children's shoe department and am in charge of supplying customers with their shoe needs
• I am also required to clean, organize shoes, and make sure online and in-store shoe orders are being sent out in a timely manner

• I assisted elementary teachers in aiding inner city kids with their studies
• With the help of the principal, I developed a curriculum, website, and video with tools for health and wellness
• My resources are now used by teachers throughout LAUSD
