· Prioritizes outbound trailer loads to meet train schedules, and empty return programs; has direct contact with customers for spotting and pulling intermodal trains; designates availability of equipment to meet customer requirements and ensures security of all operations within the confines of the intermodal yard.

· Assists in the company’s safety policies by upholding a high level of standard for all employees.

· Monitor the intermodal freight is handled in such a manner that is cost-effective for the company while meeting the customer’s service standards.

The Ground Person is responsible for maintaining the lock hitches on railroad flatcars, along with the containers on the railroad chassis. This role will also assist in the communication with loading and unloading of intermodal units.

Essential Responsibilities:

· Responsible for locking and unlocking hitches on railroad flatcars’ inter-box connector (IBC’s) locks on all containers, as well as on all container chassis.

· Ensure that all hitches on container-on-chassis (COFC) and trailers (TOFC) that are loaded on flatcars or double state car units are secured safely. Use of electrical equipment is required to raise and lower hitches.

· Responsible for proper storage of inter-box connectors (IBC’s).

· Communicate clear and accurate with the Crane Operators by using verbal and/or hand signals to guide the operators in the loading and unloading of intermodal units on the rail track.

· Inspect the rail track to ensure that it is secure with warning flags, derails and warning lights prior to beginning work.

· Be aware of any damage while working on track, notify the operator and supervisor immediately.

· Use all tools for locking and unlocking efficiently, as well as being aware of placement of crane, to avoid incurring any damage to equipment.

· Responsible for the compliance under HAZMAT and OSHA Regulations. This would include reporting any incidents to the supervisory immediately. Ground Persons are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety vest, safety toe boots, safety glasses and protective hard hat, when applicable.

· Ensure clearances are met on all carriages of trailers and containers.

· Be aware of surroundings to maintain a safe and injury free work environment.

· Maintain company values, rules, policies and procedures are met to fulfill the company mission, as well as productive relationships with customers and vendors
