Nikitas Rodríguez

Medical student with the goal of learning new skills that will potentially increase the quality of my abilities. The knowledge I have about the fundamental elements that are examined in the first two years of medicine are contrasted with the aspiration for other types of experiences that are required for a competent application.

I visualize myself in a residency program in which I can learn the most from my colleagues and mentors and in the process contribute to that exchange with enthusiasm. I firmly believe in the positive influence that a valuable learning experience can have in both myself as a student and in the teacher as a mentor. For this reason I will demonstrate my willingness to work with other colleagues and contribute to the program in a significant manner. All I hope to get from this potential experience is the acquisition of the types of skills and feedback that will make me a competent applicant.

• Research in Recinto de Ciencias Medicas from 2015-2018 in the Neurobiology department as a behavior analyst. Research subject was the neurobehavioral alterations of the arthropod animal model Macrobrachium carcinus in function of the phtalathes levels in rivers of metropolitan versus rural areas in Puerto Rico.
• Research in Universidad Central del Caribe in the summer of 2018 in Neurobiology. The objective was to determine how Pyramidal Neurons of a mouse animal model responded to sub-hypoxic conditions and determine which stress parameters (reactive oxygen species, hydroxyl free radicals or other molecules of a reactive nature) were causing the most damage.
• Voluntary work with the Fideicomiso de Conservacion de Puerto Rico from 2012-2013. The two main objectives were to delineate an official geographic area for the legislation of a protected natural area status of that region.

• Aggression and activity of dominant male prawns Macrobrachium carcinus are affected by urban stream pollutants.
• Presented at the Puerto Rico Neuroscience Conference in 2015 and 2016.
