My name is Olivia Parker, and I am a dedicated and motivated nursing student with a strong passion for pediatric care. My long-term goal is to pursue a career in pediatrics, and hopefully further my degree to continue to care for pediatrics to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families. I have been an extern at CHRISTUS since December 2024, during which I gained valuable hands-on experience in Med-Surg and the ICU. These experiences strengthened my clinical skills, adaptability, and confidence in patient care before I had the opportunity to transfer to the pediatric unit in August, where I have been ever since.
From the moment I began working in pediatrics, I knew I had found the area of nursing I truly belonged in. I fell in love not only with caring for the children, but also with the positive, supportive environment and the incredible staff who make teamwork and compassionate care a priority. Working with pediatric patients has reinforced my desire to advocate for vulnerable populations while providing comfort, patience, and empathy during difficult moments.
I believe I would be a strong fit for this unit because I am a highly motivated student who strives to learn something new every day. I take initiative, ask questions, and actively seek opportunities to grow both clinically and professionally. I am always willing to step in and help wherever needed, and I pride myself on being dependable, compassionate, and eager to contribute to the team. I am committed to delivering safe, high-quality, family-centered care.
As a nurse extern at Christus, I floated to all units in the hospital including ICU, specialty units like cath lab and OR, and pediatrics, which is where I've spent most of my time. I have experience with vitals, foley catheter placement and removal, IV insertion and removal, CPR, NG tube placement and removal, shift report, Epic charting, and much more.
