Rise McElhenney

This is my private practice located in Antioch, Illinois where I have maintained a rigorous and fluctuating schedule for more than ten years. I evaluated for the Illinois Bureau of Disability Determination. I also evaluated and treated a wide range of ages and disabilities/disorders, applied for and maintained credentialing with Medicaid and commercial insurances, billed insurances, maintained records, and collaborated with teachers and physicians, and other professionals as needed. I've worked with a company, Ablenet, to obtain Assistive Devices for nonverbal children/youth and children with severe to profound communication disorders.

Evaluated and treated communication disorders (articulation, language, voice, and fluency) in the elementary and middle school populations. Learned a new electronic IEP program. Supervised after school activities. Collaborated with teachers and staff. Worked in classrooms co taught on a regular basis.

Evaluated and treated a variety of speech, language, and phonological awareness deficits in troubled youth. Maintained documentation, wrote IEP goals and progress reports, collaborated with teachers and staff, created a Speech Policies and Procedures manual for the association.

Contracted with this district for three years to provide services in elementary and middle schools. Evaluated and treated a large caseload of students in multiple schools, including preschoolers as needed. Maintained documentation and participated in meetings. Collaborated with teachers and staff on a regular basis.

Private practice contracted with hospitals, nursing homes, and private schools (including a therapeutic day school), provided home health services.

Provided services in the acute care, rehab, nursing home, and clinic settings to pediatrics and adults. Left abruptly when a family member became seriously ill and required care out of state.

Worked primarily in the acute care setting. Also provided home health services briefly while a coworker was on leave. Performed Modified Barium Swallow studies in conjunction with Radiology. Established and chaired an interdisciplinary tracheostomy team with physicians, dietitians, social workers, respiratory therapists, nurses, and other licensed hospital professionals.

Taught Communications 101 classes each semester part time. Wrote curriculum/syllabus, lectured, taught public speaking, and mentored college students.

Trained leaders, organized events, led seminars, wrote budgets and facilitated meetings.

Responsible for more than 100 students in four different schools Head Start (preschool) through sixth grade. Collaborated with teachers, Individualized Education Planning, evaluated and provided treatment.

Evaluated and treated patients in four nursing homes across West Tennessee. Worked primarily with stroke and swallowing patients. Collaborated with other professionals and family members.
