I started my work career at 8 years old cleaning my uncles tavern/pool hall in South Dakota, sweeping, mopping, wiping down the pool tables. The worst job was scraping out the spittoons with an old spoon specifically used for that purpose.
When I was a little older, 12-15, I worked for my father, he had a construction business. I was a carpenter helper, apprentice carpenter, roofing, concrete work, clean up.
At 15-17, I worked for various farms feeding livestock, running various machinery, tractors, rakes, cultivators, to produce crops.
From age 17-19, I worked on the road in Montana, Nebraska and Wisconsin building metal grain bins.
I did a 4 month stent in Minneapolis, repurposing a factory for a new business to move into. That consisted of installing pallet racks, moving in new machinery, welder helper and light plumbing.
At 20-21, I worked at Lyle Signs in my home town, my job consisted of drilling, tapping and welding street sign holder posts, building large interstate signs and various other jobs.
From 20-23, I went back to work on the road, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Minnesota, building large hog confinement buildings. Doing extensive framing, metal sheeting and also finishing work on the office, locker room, receptionist area of the projects.
1981 found me in Wyoming working on natural gas pipeline change out in Casper, Laramie, Riverton and Lander. Did mostly cathodic protection, consisting of running a shovel, post holes, air compressor and part time backhoe operator.
I moved to Laramie in 1982 and worked for a home builder, framing, siding and interior finish work until he went out of business in 1983. After that I went to work for B and H Cement as a laborer. I quickly worked myself up to project managing, reading blueprints, form setting, pouring and finishing concrete for foundations, floors, curb and gutter and other flatwork on residential and commercial projects.
During my time here I also worked in Denver and Florida for a couple years doing the same thing but on much larger commercial and industrial projects.
In 1993 I started my own company Minier Concrete which I still own in 2026. I am a hands on owner and do the physical day to day work still to this day. I have many satisfied customers, doing many commercial and residential projects including large additions at Ivinson Memorial Hospital, the Rochelle Athletic Center and the Student Union remodel at the University of Wyoming, two new schools in Newcastle, Wy. Over 100+ new homes in Laramie, Saratoga, Elk Mountain, Jackson, Victor, Idaho and many other areas of Wyoming.
