The NYPD Emergency Service Unit (ESU) is a multi-disciplined unit within the Special Operations Division (SOD) providing 24/7 specialized tactical, rescue, and medical support. The Emergency Services Unit handles high-risk situations like barricaded subjects, hostage rescue, high-angle/water rescues, and counterterrorism.
