• I graduated from NICC with my certification in Health Information Technology in 2021 and received my RHIT from AHIMA in January of 2022, wanting to use my education to become a medical coder. I was hired at WinnMed in May of 2022, as the H.I.M Clerk and shortly after, a coding position became available, so I immediately applied. I was given the position as our outreach Clinic coder and then a few months later was asked if I wanted to take over the ancillary coding position. After roughly a year and a half as a coder, I decided to step away from WinnMed. I was offered the Food Service Leader Position at my part time job when I made them aware of my decision to quit WinnMed.
• I enjoy my current job, but I miss coding. I like being able to tune everything else out and focus on the information I need to find the most correct and specific code set for that patient and their interaction with the physician or provider. I'm diligent in the fact that I like to know that I have checked all the boxes before I complete my work not only for accuracy but also because it is my name attached to the work I am submitting.
